27 Jul Day 87 – Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay
Today’s song is just about how I will feel this time tomorrow night.
I had a lot of conversations with people today about how far I have come since the beginning of this trip. It was great talking to people back home. Mainly Georgie Crane. I went to school with Craney and we used to cause all sorts of trouble in our Chemistry class. I have been keeping in touch with her through twitter but it was amazing hearing her voice again. I should be meeting with a lot of school friends when I return to the UK in about two weeks time. I also spoke to Jen who is going through her final preparations for her sailing trip around the world. She is as anxious as I was in the few days before I set off.
We finally made it into the City of Los Angeles. Helen walked with me for my last leg of today and we passed the city limit sign in the last couple of miles of the day. I had a bad bit of cramp towards the end of leg 3. I just wanted Helen to be with me in case anything happened. Once again she came tot he rescue and sorted everything which allowed me to keep walking. I just want to say thank you to her for all she has done and we are both in agreement with Jo Denby, Eddie Izzards physio for when he ran round the UK, when she e-mailed Helen saying she doubts I would have made it this far without the help of a sports therapist. So a huge thank you to Helen for all she has done for me over the last nine weeks since Chicago.
I have a few things in store. The major thing tomorrow is that I will have two police bikes escorting me on my final mile of my trip. They will take me to the start of the pier when they will peel off and I will head down the final stretch of the pier with all the people who have come to watch me arrive. I should be on the pier by 12.30 US time which is about 8.30PM UK time. Keep looking at my twitter tomorrow for all the updates. I am very excited and just about to have my last massage and head to bed!
