Day 74 – When the Going Gets Tough

Day 74 – When the Going Gets Tough

I set off this morning hoping to drop in altitude down the desert… I couldn’t be more wrong

Rolling Hills

When I left in the RV this morning, the sun was up and it looked to be a good day. I spent about 4 miles on a completely open road as they were doing road works on the northern road that I was walking on so I had two lanes to myself. The hills undulated but with this much space to walk and think I didn’t mind. All the workmen were great, all tipping their hard hats to me. It felt like I was in some sort of Oliver Twist movie.

The Drop Off

Helen came walking with me on leg three. It was great we headed off into the wilderness on a rocky path for 2.7 miles. The views were pretty astounding. We headed down this very rocky road whilst the RV headed round on the highway. When we got to the end of our Adventure we were greeted by a barbed wire fence Helen looked like some form of sea life being born whilst i looked like a old man trying to do the limbo all wrong! Between the two of us we did not do the image of athletes well at all.

The Climb

On leg four Shaun left after 6 miles. We saw our first cactus and they look more ridiculous than you think they would. The fake ones in the movies look more realistic that the real ones. Anyway I was on my own after this and it looked nice…yet within a mile it started climbing…and climbing… and climbing. For the next 4 miles I would be walking up hill. When I finally got to the RV I was raging. I got straight in the shower then ate, now I am blogging and I can’t wait to get to bed!

Do you think some flurescent waistcoat might be a good idea at night ???
You are suffering ‘finishing pains’ – think of the moment – not the end or the next day – don’t lose your focus.
By the way Scottsdale is where I tasted my first deep fried rattlesnake – wonderful!  Like the best chicken you have ever tasted.
I kissed one in Morocco but it didn’t taste the same – you should have Bar-B-qued that lizard but I guess he was too smart for you guys – can’t wait to see the video.  xx

Keep it up Jon – think positive – after all you could be in Tuscany doing a children’s camp like me!! I also can’t wait to go to bed, but then I’m 64 in 3 days!!

Trying to find the time to write you a longer email to update you with the news. Will try over the weekend!!
    All love from us all,
