02 Jul Day 59 – Country Roads
Spectacular
Waking up this morning really made me feel like I was a cowboy back in the gold rush age. I was saying to Chris how it actually feels like a theme park. We have all seen these sights before, the wide open landscapes with the huge messa’s and bute’s ( big hills) in tge distance. Having said this there is something quite special about walking through this landscape as the sun rises and the countryside comes to life. We walked further into the wilderness and on my last leg of the day I walked down a canyon road and was confronted with this phenomenal view.
Wifi
Now that we are really out in the wild we have little to no connection with the outside world. I had a minute amount of signal on my phone that told me I had mail but nothing downloaded. It is funny that for the first two legs today I was checking my phone to see if I had any signal then after a while you just accept it and think about other things. I would just like to have a tiny amount of signal so I can let people know I am safe and we are going well.
Route Mapping
The end of today brought us to country Road 58c. That means nothing to you but it is basically a 60 mile rocky dirt path. It is something that we are concerned about getting the RV down. As Chris pointed out, if it was 10 miles then we can turn back, bit this is a day and a half excursion. If anything happened we would not be in a good position. This all being said we have decided to re-route. We are now heading up the 104 to Las Vegas, not the real Las Vegas, but the one in New Mexico. We currently believe that this will add on 25 miles to the trip. This puts me massively behind schedule but rather that than the RV get stuck or we get lost in 60 miles of wilderness.

Bienvenidos a Santa Fe! Have been following your pilgramage here ad there – looks like an experience of a lifetime!
I am immersed in the opening weekend of the Opera (and the drama of all these damn wildfires) – otherwise would have been there to cheer you in to Santa Fe…
Am encouraged by the rain building for tonight – should help wit the fires. Sending you all good wishes for continued adventures along your journey. God speed!
